PROJECT 20-7

BLINDNESS CALL

According to the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION, 1.2% of the entire population of Africa is blind and 36% percent of this blindness is caused by CATARACT.

It has been further discovered by the BRISTISH JOURNAL OF OPTHALMOLOGY that the above figure is dependent on the number of cataract surgery done in the region.

The cataract surgery rate(CSR)in africa presently has been estimated to be 200-400 per million population each year as against 4000-6000 in industrialized nations. The target for the next 5-10 years is to increase the CSR in Africa to 2000.

Greatstory interNational in its PROJECT 20-7 BLINDNESS CALL is determined to help achieve this goal this year by taken care of 100 cataracts surgeries free of charge in the AWO 2021 outreach in IMO state Nigeria, West Africa.
